Terms of Use

Last updated:

These terms apply when you use ToneForge — the web app at this URL and the iOS app distributed via the Apple App Store. They are written in plain English on purpose — read them, then go play guitar.

The service

ToneForge takes the gear you tell it about, picks a target tone you choose, and returns a best-effort starting point: amp knob settings, a pickup-position recommendation, and tips. The output is a suggestion, not a guarantee. Your room, your speaker, your hands, and your ears do most of the work.

Subscriptions (iOS app)

The iOS app includes a free trial limited to a fixed number of tone adaptations. After the free adaptations are used, continued unlimited use requires a "ToneForge Pro" subscription, sold as auto-renewable in-app purchases on the App Store:

The exact price you see is the price in your local App Store currency at the time of purchase. Subscriptions are charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase and automatically renew until cancelled. Renewal is charged within 24 hours of the end of the current period.

Cancellation: manage or cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions, or from the in-app "Manage Subscription" row in Profile. Cancellation must be done at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period to avoid the next charge. Cancellation takes effect at the end of that period — you keep access until then. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

Refunds: all sales are final. We do not issue partial refunds for unused time. Refund requests for individual App Store purchases must be filed with Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com — Apple processes App Store refunds, not us.

Restore: if you reinstall the app or switch devices, use "Restore purchases" on the paywall or in Profile to recover an active subscription tied to your Apple ID.

Web app accounts and plans

Your content

Saved tones, gear presets, and (web) reviews you create are yours. We do not claim ownership of them. You are responsible for what you write in reviews; do not submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes someone else's rights.

Trademarks and gear references

Names of guitars, amplifiers, pedals, and the players associated with them are referenced for the descriptive purpose of identifying real gear. All trademarks belong to their respective owners. ToneForge is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or sponsored by any of the manufacturers or artists referenced in the app.

AI-generated content

When you use the "Search any song" feature in the iOS app, the resulting tone recipe (gear suggestion, amp settings, and tips) is generated on demand by a large language model. Such recipes are marked with an "AI recipe" indicator in the app. They are heuristic and may be inaccurate or incomplete — treat them as a starting point, not a definitive guide.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is." We make no warranties — express or implied — about the accuracy of any tone recommendation. The recommendations are heuristic. Use them as a starting point, then trust your ears.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ToneForge is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the service. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the most recent billing period.

Apple's standard EULA

Use of the iOS app is also subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, except to the extent that these terms explicitly supersede it.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date above will change when we do. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance.
